The course
What you’re in for
Day one of the MTC Severn Challenge and also a standalone race. From the Rhyd-y-benwch picnic area in Hafren Forest, it opens with a climb of about four miles onto the boggy slopes of Plynlimon to the source of the Severn, where a marshal checks everyone through. Runners return to the start, which becomes CP1, then follow the Severn Way down the valley past Llanidloes to the Mid Wales Arts Centre near Caersws. Expect mountain bog and forest early on, then riverside path and fields that can be overgrown. The route is not marked and GPX navigation is strongly advised. There are two checkpoints, with strict closures based on 4 mph.
