What you’re in for
The 55km follows the Capital Ring — the footpath that circles inner London — from the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich round to Richmond, by way of Eltham Palace, parks, woodland, disused railway lines and the quieter corners of the city, finishing at Richmond Green. The 25km starts elsewhere and covers the western part of the Ring, through Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park to the same finish. The 55km is 55.6km with 452m of climb; the 25km 26.6km and 143m. The two distances start in different places, so check which start is yours. Fully signed and supported, with sweeps taking the signs down behind the last runner.
Terrain and trail
Park paths, woodland, towpath, pavement and old railway, changing every few kilometres. Firm underfoot almost throughout; the muddy bits are the commons and Richmond Park after rain. The climbing on the 55km comes in short south London hills rather than anything sustained. A road shoe is fine; a light trail shoe if it has been wet.
