What you’re in for
A 5km, a 10km, a half marathon or a full marathon in Thoresby Park near Newark in April, in a thousand acres of parkland around the seventeenth-century hall, with wild deer and the long-horned cattle that give the event its name. Routes go down to a 2km for children. The 5km is 5.3km with 24m of climb; the 10km is 10.0km, the half 21.4km and the marathon 42.8km. The estate is fairly flat, and the organiser pitches the 5km and 10km at people stepping up from parkrun.
Terrain and trail
Estate drives, parkland grass and woodland trail on the edge of Sherwood Forest, flat and firm, with sandy sections in the woods. April grass is soft. Road shoes with tread over any distance; the marathon is laps, so you will learn the course.
