What you’re in for

New for 2027: Borrowdale to Keswick the long way, 81km with 3,000m of climb and a high point above 800m, fully waymarked, with five feed stations and 21 hours — built to sit between the 5 Valleys and the 7 on the 13 Valleys weekend at the end of September. The step up from the waymarked 5 for anyone not ready to navigate the 7.

Terrain and trail

Fell path, pass and valley bottom through the central and western fells: stone-pitched climbs to the cols, boggy tops, rocky descents and long valley tracks between. Waymarked, but the kit list is the mountain one and the weather at the end of September can be anything. A trail shoe with grip.

Train for it: routes near the start

Routes starting within 20 km of Borrowdale, Cumbria, nearest first. Each one has a free GPX file and a TRP grade, so you can rehearse the ground before race day.

Scafell Pike from Seathwaite

You top out on Scafell Pike, the roof of England at 978m, from the green Borrowdale side, and the Corridor country you cross to get there is as wild as the Lakes gets.

Bob Graham Round Leg 5: Honister Pass to Keswick

Three last summits over the Newlands fells and then the famous road run into Keswick: this is the leg where a Bob Graham Round is finished.

You get the two most famous ridges on the fell, Swirral and Striding Edge, on a route that still starts and finishes on the quiet Thirlmere side.

You gain the summit of a 950m Wainwright in well under an hour of climbing, then drop back to the car on grass you can really open up on.

This is the heart and the crux of the Bob Graham: the Langdale Pikes, the highest ground in England over the Scafells, and the notorious Broad Stand step onto Scafell.
