What you’re in for

A 43-mile January ultra from Wendover in the Chilterns to Little Venice in London. The first part crosses Buckinghamshire countryside on trails and paths, then the route joins the Grand Union Canal towpath for most of the way into the city. Roughly a quarter is cross-country, a quarter road and path, and nearly half canal towpath, with about 420m of climbing. The route is waymarked in places but you are expected to navigate, helped by the GPS tracker every runner carries. There are five checkpoints and an 11-hour cut-off, and a single bag is taken to the finish. There is no parking at the start pub; most runners use the station car park and come back by train.
