What you’re in for
Both races start and finish in Widecombe-in-the-Moor and climb the Hameldown ridge twice, among some of Dartmoor's best-known tors. The Hammer Half runs clockwise with over 800m of ascent, and the organiser describes it as 98% trail on grassy, rocky and often muddy tracks plus some forestry. The 7EVEN runs the loop anticlockwise with more than 450m of climb. Both courses are fully marked and marshalled. The Half has a 3.5-hour limit and a cut-off at Natsworthy Gate around 9 miles; the 7EVEN allows 2.25 hours. Carry the mandatory kit, including a waterproof, a foil blanket and a cup, because the aid stations are cupless. Minimum ages are 17 for the Half and 16 for the 7EVEN.
