What you’re in for
The end to end of England on foot: thirteen days from Gretna Green to Land's End on the JOGLE line, 503 miles, with the overnights at Shap, Lancaster, Wigan, Tarporley, Shrewsbury, Kidderminster, Tewkesbury, Bristol, Bridgwater, Crediton, Liskeard and Truro. Each day is also sold as a standalone ultra, from the Boggart on day one to the Merry Maidens on day thirteen. 804.1km with 4,178m of climb over the thirteen days — an average of 38 miles a day, from the 34-mile Cheshire stages to the 50-mile Dartmoor crossing. Preset cut-offs each day at a minimum 4 mph average, a warning the first time you fall below, withdrawal the second. Nothing on the course after ten at night. Hotel to hotel, checkpoints roughly every eight miles, trackers with SOS, maps and GPX for entrants only.
Terrain and trail
Road and cycle path, hard-surfaced almost throughout; the organiser supplies road shoes and advises trail shoes only for a few miles on one day. Shap Fell, the Severn gorge and the Dartmoor edge are the hills; the Lancashire plain, Cheshire and the Somerset Levels are the flat days that let you recover. Thirteen consecutive days is the difficulty.
