What you’re in for
A 5km, a 5 Mile or a 10 Mile at Derwent Reservoir on the Durham–Northumberland border in May. The 10 Mile is a full lap of the reservoir on closed roads and firm trails, with a two-and-a-half-hour cut-off because the roads reopen; the 5km and 5 Mile are on the trails only. The 5km is 5.0km, the 5 Mile 8.2km with 67m of climb, the 10 Mile 16.2km with 118m. A different day from the 5km and 10km trail runs that share the venue.
Terrain and trail
Closed public road for much of the 10 Mile lap — tarmac, with the reservoir beside you — and firm gravel trail for the rest. The shorter distances are all trail. Flat to gently rolling and quick. Road shoes.
