What you’re in for

A Wednesday-evening 5km or 10km in Wentworth Castle Gardens at Stainborough, Barnsley, in June — South Yorkshire's only Grade I registered landscape, with the Rotunda, the Serpentine Bridge and the folly of Stainborough Castle on the way round. The venue is closed to the public for the evening, and dogs are welcome. The 5km is 5.1km with 75m of climb and the 10km 10.1km with 176m, so it is not a flat park lap — the gardens are on a hillside.

Terrain and trail

Parkland paths, woodland trail and grass, on a slope, so every lap climbs and drops. Firm in June. A light trail shoe, or a road shoe with tread.
