What you’re in for
A point-to-point half marathon that starts at Housesteads Roman Fort on the Military Road and follows Hadrian's Wall Path along the crags for six miles, then drops off the ridge to Newbrough, through woodland to the Tyne, and along the riverside path for a flat final five miles into Hexham and Tyne Green. Sixth edition in October 2026; the walk is on the Saturday and the run on the Sunday. It is 21.7km with 179m of climb, and the climb is all in the first six miles. You have to book the shuttle bus to the start or arrange your own drop-off at Housesteads. Supports Heel and Toe children's charity.
Terrain and trail
The Wall section is the hard part: the National Trail along the Whin Sill crags is stone steps, grass and rock, up and down every nick in the ridge, and exposed to whatever the weather is doing. Off the ridge it turns into farm track, woodland path and then flat riverside trail all the way to Hexham. A trail shoe for the crags; you will be glad of the cushioning on the riverside.
