What you’re in for
Down the Northumberland coast from Bamburgh Castle to Druridge Bay Country Park in March: past Seahouses, Beadnell harbour, Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster, Alnmouth and Warkworth Castle, on the coast path and the beaches. The 54km is the whole thing; the 27km is the southern half, finishing in the same place. The 54km is 53.9km with 263m of climb, the 27km 26.5km with 147m. Point to point, so you book the shuttle bus from the finish to the start before the race, or get yourself to Bamburgh. Bag drop at registration, bags to the finish. Feed stations at Low Newton, Boulmer and Warkworth Beach on the 54km; Warkworth Beach on the 27km.
Terrain and trail
Coast path, dune track, beach and short sections of lane through the villages. Flat, but not easy: long stretches of sand that can be firm or soft depending on the tide, and a north-easterly in March that you will have in your face or on your back for hours. Trail shoes, and something windproof.
