What you’re in for

A hundred kilometres of Northumberland coast in one go, from Bamburgh Castle to the gates of Tynemouth Priory at the end of May. The first fifty are the Kingdom of Northumbria course — Beadnell, Dunstanburgh, Craster, Warkworth — and then it carries on through Druridge Bay, Newbiggin, Blyth, Seaton Sluice, Whitley Bay and Cullercoats to the finish through the priory gates. It is 100.1km with 394m of climb — the longest race Wild Deer put on and, by the numbers, one of the flattest hundreds in the country. Six feed stations: Low Newton, Boulmer, Warkworth Beach, Druridge Bay, Newbiggin and Blyth. Point to point with a shuttle bus from the finish to the start, bag drop to the finish, and every runner carries a tracker.

Terrain and trail

Coast path, beach, dune, promenade and lane. Nothing steep, but a hundred kilometres of sand and sea wind is its own kind of hard, and the southern half turns increasingly urban — promenade and pavement through the Tyneside towns. Trail shoes for the north, and think about a change at a drop bag for the promenade miles. The course is signed; the tracker is for the people at home.
