What you’re in for
Forty-five miles from Betws-y-Coed on the Snowdonia Slate Trail past Swallow Falls, then up into the mountains: the flank of Tryfan, Yr Wyddfa, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, the Devil's Kitchen and Llyn Idwal, coming back by Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd. Hardcopy OS OL17 or a Harvey XT25 or XT40 is mandatory, with a base plate compass, and GB Ultras are explicit that you should be a competent map reader and not lean on GPS in poor visibility or the dark. Five checkpoints, 3,254 m of ascent.
