What you’re in for

A single-day 50-mile race from the Travelodge in Caernarfon to the seafront at Barmouth. It follows National Cycle Route 8 all the way, through Llanystumdwy, Tremadog, Talsarnau and Llanbedr. It is also day two of the six-day MTC CYMRUN end-to-end of Wales, so you run alongside multi-day entrants. Expect cycle path and quiet lanes rather than open hill. Maps and GPX are sent to entrants only, and a waterproof map case and head torch are on the kit list. Every runner is given a tracker with an SOS button. There are five checkpoints and a 4 mph minimum pace. The field is limited to 20 single-race entrants.

Crib Goch is one of the most exposed ridges in Britain, and this route puts it in the middle of a big mountain day rather than as the whole objective, so you get the scramble and a proper crossing into the Glyderau either side of it.

It's the most runnable line to the summit of Yr Wyddfa, following the rack railway most of the way up, so you can move fast on genuinely good underfoot conditions rather than picking through rock.

Yr Wyddfa via Miners' Track, Pyg Track and Crib Goch

Most people treat the Miners' and Pyg Tracks as a straightforward there-and-back pairing, but this GPX shows the loop actually crossing Crib Goch, which changes the entire character of the day.
