Maverick Race
Maverick Race run one of the busiest trail calendars in Britain, split into three series: Trail, Gravel and the longer X-Trail. Most events offer five routes off the same start — an ultra, a marathon, a half, a Middle and a Short — so a first-timer and someone chasing fifty kilometres share a field and a finish line. They range from the Suffolk gravel, which is about as flat as British trail running gets, to the Lakes X-Trail with 2,858 metres of climb in 52km. There is a night series too: the Dark Castle at Corfe, Dark Oxfordshire at Stonor Park, and Dark Hampshire on 5km laps of Alice Holt Forest. They publish a GPX for every route on the race page itself, and they rate each event for difficulty and technicality rather than leaving you to guess from the numbers.
