What you’re in for
A winter circuit of Helvellyn from Askham on the shortest Saturday of the year: 58.6km with 2,129m of climb, unmarked, and no route description issued — only grid references. Start when you like between seven and half past nine, though the Side Farm control has its own opening time. The classic December test of Lakeland navigation.
Terrain and trail
High Street's flank, the Ullswater shore, Sticks Pass and Grisedale — fell path, pass and lakeside track, with ice, snow and darkness all likely on the high ground. Full winter mountain kit, a map and compass you can use, and a fell shoe with grip.

An unmarked route: no route description is issued, only grid references. Start when you like between 07:00 and 09:30, but Side Farm control does not open before 09:30 and closes at 11:45, and CP7 at Side Farm closes at 16:30. Kit is checked before you leave the Community Centre. Capped at around 200 starters.
